Creativ Festival, anyone?
It's running October 26 - 28 this year at the (gods-forsaken) Metro Convention Centre (does my loathing for that venue show just a titch?)
I've been a regular attendee since the very first year of the CSNF. I still remember the year they introduced classes - what a wonderful concept that was! The CSFN became my gift to myself, 2 and later on, 3 days of pure, unadulterated indulgence in needlework. A chance to try new techniques, new ideas and to see what some of my favourite designers were like in person.
But I've found my interest waning in the last 5 - 7 years, ever since The Power That Be decided to expand the scope of the fesitval to include other crafts. But I digress into whinging and whining ....
So, I've been looking at the (limited) selection of needlework classes for the the October Festival. ( http://www.csnf.com/f07_needlework.html
The good news is that Gitta's will have a booth this Fall. (OTOH, I can drive to Gitta's - and do a swing by The Sampler on the same drive. The Enchanted Needle is, unfortunately for the state of my pocketbook, a mere 5 minute drive away from my house. But I digress, yet again.) Seriously, though, the Treasure Box and Dragon Ornament classes with Jennifer Aikman-Smith, the Jade Dragon class with Laura Dickson and the Love Knot Ornament with Kathryn Drummond look like they could be fun. I wish I could work up more enthusiasm for Jeanette Douglas' 20th Anniversary Sampler, though, because I usually love her designs. There's a better picture of it on the Events page at Gitta's (http://www.gittas.com/
Anyone going to be attending? If so, perhaps we could arrange a meet-up on the Saturday. Current Mood: contemplative

The Enchanted Needle is having a sale!
For anyone who's in the GTA, The Enchanted Needle (www.theenchantedneedle.net (I think) ) is having a midsummer sale today (well... it's a little late for that...) and tomorrow.
Lots of stuff and all of their charts and kits are either 25 or 30% off.
'Tis a good sale, so if you can go you should!

Just joined the community, so I thought I'd introduce myself. The name's Lisa, I live in Toronto, and I cross-stitch. I may even be the person responsible for getting amy_chan hooked on x-stitch...
Lately I've been working on crochet and knit projects mostly, but I'm feeling the urge to get back to the cross-stitch.
Question: I used to get most of my DMC thread at Lewiscraft, but since it's going under I was wondering if you know of anywhere downtown/easily accessible by TTC where DMC thread can be acquired.

Though I'm sure most people around here have seen this on the cross_stitch community....
To keep the community with posts,
And because I'm bored....
I just thought I'd post and say that Lewiscraft is going out of business everywhere, and that if people's want stuffs from them before they close, currently the discount is 30% off, but, they are starting to close some of the stores around here (like the one in Yorkdale) so you might want to call and check that the store you are heading out to is still around before you make a trip there...

I have tried two things for fuller stitches which have worked really well, though one of these things is apparently a bit much for 18ct, that being that i did both adding an extra strand of thread so that it was 3 ply, and the second thing, Ive started railroading. I like it. I shall continue railroading, though I'll stop the three layers of thread thing on 18 count. Anyways, here's the WIP for the last few days, I havent been working on it as much as I'd have liked, I think my eyes are still adjusting and getting used to all the intricate work, I spent a few days with squinted up watery eyes. Right, here's the pic and less ranting:( image behind linkCollapse )
And a little extra note for our community, let's aim to get together once or twice a week, maybe more, Im up for suggestions on when and where and possible more often than that, if other people want more bitch n stitch time, then yay. We shall discuss our weekly plans and when and where things are to happen. Today it's a bitch and stitch between myself, Manna, Shosh, and Leah, hosted at Manna's house. Yaay for Manna *hugs everyone* Current Mood: happy

Last time I had to do an intro online... my friend wrote it for me. *sighs*
Okay... well, I live in Toronto and I cross stitch... good start there.
Um, I'm double_agent's sister, I like anime/manga, I like music, I play alto sax and am attempting to maybe learn guitar... Yeah, sounds like about it.
I just summed myself up in two sentences. yay for me! I'd post my current and recently completed projects, but that would involve braving the arguing going on upstairs to make my way to the scanner, so.... no. Sorries ^^;;
Im joining this community...ok i was more than a bit nudged into it but...
i like toronto...living just outside of it and going to school in it probably factor into that part...
and i like cross stitch...(a minor addiction, i swear its only minor) probably factors into that...
and i dont like doing introductions...but i like the idea of a stitch and bitch!

Because I'm sure all the Toronto people (and those who live nearby....) will show up eventually....
Where does everyone like to shop for their cross stitch stuffs?
I shop a little bit of everywhere....
But... I think my favorite place for getting stuff together to start something be it specialty fibres or fabric or something like that (obviously not the general michael's run stuffs....) has to be the Enchanted Needle on Steeles...
They are all super friendly (and remembered me after being in there just a couple of times)
And are willing to special order anything that in my crazyness I decide I want to tackle
So where else do people go?
Figured I'd do an introductory post at least, my namy is Amy and I live in Toronto and I like to cross-stitch, hrm. That is a boring introduction. Ah well, It's all I got. My room mate's stepped out for lunch and normally i have to use my creativity coming up with scripts and lines for her. So, I really just wanted to start this community in hopes of getting people together in Toronto for cross-stitch, regardless of age, sex, gender identity, so on and so forth. Cross-stitch is cross-stitch and to be enjoyed by everyone.
As for a potential meeting place, if we get members, Im leaning strongly on the possibility of a cafe or some place with a sitting area we could grab up and enjoy a drink a snack and a whole buncha cross-stitching. Let's hear some YAAAY!
Also, drug your friends and bring them too! It'll be fun for the whole family! Current Mood: hopeful
